Custom domains

Every Pages project gets a Deep Woods address automatically. To serve it from your own domain, add the domain in the dashboard and create a few DNS records with your domain provider (the company you bought the domain from, or wherever its DNS is managed).

Add the domain

Open your project (Projects → Pages → your project). In the Settings card, enter your domain in Custom Domain, for example www.example.com, and click Save settings.

Copy the DNS records

A Custom domain card appears with the records to create: "Add these DNS records with your domain provider". Each line gives a record type, a name, and a value. Use the copy button next to a value to copy it exactly.

Create the records with your domain provider

Sign in to your domain provider, open the DNS settings for your domain, and add each record exactly as shown.

Verify

Back in the dashboard, click Verify. DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to spread. When the card shows Verified and active., you're done. SSL (the padlock and https://) is set up for you automatically.

A TXT record means the domain was used with another service before. That record proves you own it. Add it along with the others.

After your domain is verified

  • View Live opens your custom domain.
  • Your Deep Woods address keeps working too, so older links don't break.

Troubleshooting

  • Verify still shows the records after an hour or two: check each record against the dashboard, character by character. A common mistake is entering the full domain in the name field when your provider adds it automatically. For example, entering www.example.com can turn into www.example.com.example.com.
  • Domain Update Failed when you save: the domain can't be added as entered. Check its spelling, and enter it without https:// or a trailing /, for example www.example.com. If it still fails, contact support with the domain name.
  • The Custom domain card says the domain "isn't linked yet": click Save settings again to relink it. If the message stays, contact support with the domain name.
  • You use the domain for email: don't delete any existing MX or TXT records for email. Only add the records the dashboard asks for.
