Troubleshooting & FAQ

Opening Studio

"Edit site" says "Setting up…" The editor is still being built. This is normal for a few minutes after creating a project. The button turns into Edit site on its own.

Clicking "Edit site" does nothing Your browser probably blocked the new tab. Allow pop-ups for the Deep Woods dashboard and try again.

Studio opened but shows an error or asks me to sign in Close the tab and click Edit site again from the dashboard. Each click signs you in fresh. If it keeps happening, contact support.

Editing

My change isn't showing in the preview

  • Content edits update as you type. If they don't, refresh the Studio tab.
  • Site-wide code (Code for the head/end of every page) only shows after a page reload.
  • A new style class may only show after you publish. See Styling.

I can't find where to change my logo, menu, or footer They're in Content → settings → site, not on the page. See Brand & site settings.

It changed on one page but not the others (or the reverse) Check whether the setting is in the page's Page Settings (this page only) or in settings → site (every page). See How settings layer.

A block ended up inside another block A dragged block was dropped onto another block instead of between two blocks. Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z), then use Move up / Move down from the block's handle menu.

I can't select or edit a block Switch to Use code editor, find the block by its ::name, and edit or delete it there. Switch back with Use visual editor.

A style I typed into "Ui" does nothingUi only works when written in the code editor. See Advanced: the Ui field.

My header menu link doesn't scroll anywhere The section needs an ID matching the link. A menu link to #faq needs a block with id: faq. See Linking to a section.

"Formatting applied to align with MDC syntax standard" Studio tidied up the page's formatting. Your content is unchanged. You can ignore it.

Images, media, and fonts

My upload fails Files must be 3 MB or smaller and an allowed type (images, video, audio, or fonts). Shrink or compress the file, or host it elsewhere and use Use external source.

An image shows in the editor but not on the live site Make sure you picked it with the image picker rather than typing a path such as /images/photo.jpg. Uploaded files aren't served from a path on your site. Also confirm you've published from Studio and from the dashboard.

My image from another website doesn't appear The address must be a direct, public link to the image file. Links to private or login-protected files, or to a web page that contains the image, won't work.

My custom font isn't showing Check that Custom … font name matches the font's name exactly, including capitals and spaces, and that Custom … font source points at the uploaded file or the service's link. Reload the preview.

My favicon didn't change Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Do a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) or check in a private window.

My .ico file has no thumbnail in Media That's expected. Studio can't preview .ico files, but the favicon still works.

Forms

The Form Embed shows a yellow notice The Embed name doesn't match a file in embeds, or nothing has been pasted yet. Check the spelling, without .yml. Visitors never see this notice.

My embedded form is blank Some services only show forms on approved domains, or need a site-wide script too. Add any every-page script to Code for the head of every page, then check on your preview or live site. In the service's settings, add your site's address to the allowed domains if it asks.

My built-in form shows the error message

  • If Send with is webhook: check Send submissions to in your forms file. It must be the exact https:// URL from your form service. Try switching Format between json and form-urlencoded.
  • If Send with is email: check that an email service shows as connected under Form Settings in your Deep Woods dashboard, that Notify and From are filled in, and that From is an address your email service allows (for example a verified sender).
  • Make sure you published, then test on the preview or live site, not in the editor.

Submissions arrive with missing answers Each Form Field needs a Name, and every name must be different.

Publishing

I published in Studio, but my live site hasn't changed Publishing in Studio saves your changes but doesn't make them live. In the dashboard, click Create Preview, then Publish. See Publishing your site.

"Create Preview" isn't showing in the dashboard It only appears when there are newly published Studio changes. Make sure Studio showed Deployment complete, then refresh the dashboard.

"Publish" is disabled in the dashboard Read the message under the toolbar. Usually there are newer Studio changes that need Create Preview first.

I'm asked to upgrade when I publish Your page count is above what your plan covers. See Page limits and upgrades.

"Conflict Detected" in Studio See Conflict Detected.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code? No. Everything is done with forms, toggles, dropdowns, and pickers. The code editor and style classes are optional extras.

Can I break my live site by editing? No. Edits stay in Studio until you publish, and they reach your live site only after you create a preview and publish from the dashboard.

Can several people edit the same site? Yes. Each person's unpublished edits stay in their own browser until they publish, so publish often, and click Reload when Studio says New website version detected. Avoid editing the same page at the same time.

Can one page look completely different from the rest? Yes. Use its Page Settings to hide the header and footer, and set a background and fonts for that page only.

How do I hide a page I'm still working on? There's no hide switch yet. The Draft checkbox doesn't currently hide a page. Finish or delete the page before you publish from the dashboard, and don't link to it until it's ready.

Who handles hosting, SSL, and security? Deep Woods does, completely. There's nothing to configure outside the dashboard and Studio.

What happens if I need more than five pages? The project moves to Managed Apps. Your content and design carry over, and you keep editing in Studio.

I want to write my own code instead.Servers is for teams who want to deploy their own application code. Pages is for building visually.
